Week 9 assigment

I chose an independent online news resource called TheRealNews.com
This source of news is unbiased and gives their viewers independent and well though out journalism stories that are uncompromised. The website also does not accept advertisements or government funding, but only gets funded through viewer donations. The ownership of the website is co-owned by two people who have been leading communications directors and CEO of other communication companies and news broadcastings of independent sources. The credibility of these sources I believe is very good, because this resource of news does not just take the headlines of other news stations, but instead gives the people the REAL news that is happening today by doing their own journalism and by researching the true source of the story and its own credibility. The overrall content of this source is relatively good because the website has updated information on global issues, politics, heath care, and even a womens side to the news stories that are provided. I usually go on CNN.com and boston.com everyday to check the news since I am at school, and I must say that those sources are SO biased, and yet I have realized this now after looking at an independent news source that ultimately gives an unbiased opinion, and a womens view to the news.Another interesting part of the therealnews.com website was I was searching through the archives and it seems they always have the "other side" of a news story. For example I remember there was a news story about the somali pirates and how EVERY news station was covering how they were so dangerous and how the captives would never escape or be let go...etc. However therealnews.com had an interview with the Somali pirates who were in jail and some evidence suggests that the U.S. played up to the story so much just to get news coverage, because the situation was not at all what it was linked to be.

In the assigned reading, by Mark Edmundson, there is an underlying theme that what we are shown on the news and what we know are two different things and should not be confused. We should not look to others to present us with what is actually going on in the world, and yet that is what we solely rely on for our news media system. We rely on internet, tv stations and radio to present the top news stories and issues to us without ever thinking...is this the truth behind the story?...is what I'm hearing the unbiased truth to the actual story at hand? And more importantly who is their resource for these news stories and how are they funded? After seeing the independent news sources(i.e. Therealnews.com) I realized that it is more on the part of the viewers to decide how they want to interpret the news they are given in order to gain a better understanding of the news and media happening around the world.
